The US Department of Transportation has awarded an additional $140m to 249 transportation development projects across 36 states.

The earmarked amount will be used for widening US17 in Putnam County in Florida, streetscape improvements in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and the replacement of US159 Bridge at Rulo, Nebraska, near the Kansas-Missouri state line.

States can apply for federal funding to assist transportation improvement projects through the Transportation, Community and System Preservation programme.

The programme is managed by the Federal Highway Administration in conjunction with the Federal Transit Administration, the Federal Rail Administration and the Research and Innovative Technology Administration.
