Work on a new stage of the $110m Tiger Brennan Drive extension project in Australia has started near Berrimah Farm in Darwin.

The project includes a 7.5km four-lane dual highway extension and renovation of the corridor between Palmerston and Darwin.

Out of the total amount, $74m was funded by the Australian Government and $36m by the Northern Territory state.

The project, scheduled for completion in 2010, mainly focuses on cutting travel times and improving safety.

Road sealing work will begin towards the end of the year, with work on the overpasses to start by August.
