The number of road fatalities related to vehicular accidents in Dubai has decreased by 18% during first five months of 2009 as compared to the previous year.

The number of road accidents overall declined by 2.4% and a the number of injures declined by 4.6% , according to statistics provided by the traffic and accidents department.

The Dubai police says that increasing the number of patrol units inspecting violations and applying strict fine system had helped in reducing the number of violations, crashes, and casualties.

The most recent scheme was the introduction of cameras at pedestrian crossings.

In addition, plans are made to fix pedestrian sensors on the crossingsto warn cars when a pedestrian is crossing.
