South Africa’s first live traffic update service ‘miTRAFFIC’ will be launched by Cellfind in association with TrafficNet and Tracker.

The system, based on weekly subscription, will give up-to-date information on traffic incidents to subscribers by using WAP-enabled cellphones on the MTN and Vodacom networks.

miTRAFFIC will provide traffic incidents information and a traffic temperature map for areas within a 50km radius of the subscribed location.

The traffic data will be collected by the Tracker SkyTrax units placed in more than 100,000 vehicles throughout the country to determine average speeds of section of roads.

Additionally, traffic flow patterns and maps of incidents in South Africa can also be generated.

miTRAFFIC’s user interfaces and delivery mechanisms were developed by Cellfind.

Users without a vehicle tracking device can get information by using a WAP-enabled cellphone.
