The Ajman Municipality of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has started a Dh10m construction project for four pedestrian bridges on the Khalifa road, scheduled to open by the end of 2009.

The construction of footbridges is also part of Ajman’s infrastructure development plan to improve road networks, improving traffic movement, especially on roads linking Ajman with other northern emirates.

The footbridges will also connect shopping centres on either side of the main road.

The project includes Dh41m worth of construction of new roads in the industrial area and paving roads across the emirate.

Additional subways and footbridges at vital locations across the city of Khalifa are also planned, to maintain free flow of traffic on the new roads.
