The preferred route for the proposed £113m dualling of the 14km section of the Ballyclare-Larne A8 carriageway in Northern Ireland has been announced.

The route will start at the Coleman’s Corner roundabout near Ballyclare and end at the B100 Ballyrickard Road junction near Larne.

For the selected route, the existing single carriageway will be renovated to a dual carriageway with bypasses to the east of Bruslee and the west of Ballynure.

The preferred route is one of 12 potential routes assessed by the transport department for the project.

The project is aimed at improving road safety, reducing travel times and boosting business.

The renovation will also help develop Northern Ireland’s second-largest port, the port of Larne.
