UK Department of Transport (DoT) has approved the £18.7m Hall Lane Strategic Gateway improvement project in the city of Liverpool.

The project involves building an east-west dual carriageway highway from the M62, connecting Merseyside to Cheshire and Greater Manchester in the city.

The department will fund £17.1m for the project, while the rest will be funded by the Liverpool City Council.

Construction work will begin October this year and is expected to be complete by July 2011.
