The UK County of Cheshire is offering road offenders the option to watch a 15-minute safety presentation instead of having to pay fines or penalties.

The traffic officers will decide whether the drivers caught breaking rules should made to watch the presentation, given at the roadside by firefighters, instead of being prosecuted or given a fixed penalty notice.

The presentation focuses on general road safety, including issues such as wearing seat belts, speed and the use of mobile phones. It also includes videos displaying the dangerous outcomes of driving carelessly or not following road safety rules.

The programme, which will be run on South Cheshire roads, is part of the Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service ‘driver engagement days’ programme, which targets high-risk roads.
