China TransInfo is to build a centralised traffic information processing centre in the city of Wuhan.

The system will be based on the company proprietary GIS (Geographic Information System) technology and will feature a complete transportation sequence for real-time traffic flow data.

The system will include collection, access, processing, management and application, and will cover all the city’s major roads.

The company said the system will also support its recently launched multi-city real-time traffic monitoring service in Wuhan.

The RMB 31.8m ($4.7m) contract for the work was awarded by the Wuhan Municipal Transportation Management Bureau and is expected to be finished by the end of 2009.
