The Vietnamese Government has approved the construction of 24 expressways by 2020.

The expressways will cover nearly 2,381km in length and are expected to enter service by 2020.

The plan is part of Vietnam’s master plan for road development for the period of 2020-2030.

The plan includes developing public transport in large urban areas such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as well as improving the transport network in rural areas.

Under the plan, construction of all large bridges will be completed. Bridges needing repair will be rebuilt and roads will be widened.

The plan is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, enhancing road safety and controlling the increasing number of private vehicles that are expected to reach nearly three million by 2020.
