The Nigerian federal government has announced plans to build a US$6.4bn road in the Niger Delta area.

The road project would run from Cross River to Ondo states.

The announcement has been made by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Uffot Ekaette, who said the project would help open up the region and reduce the suffering of the people in the area.

Work on another project, the East-West road project, is already in progress in the region.
