The Ministry of Transportation in Canada has awarded a $46.7m contract to Aecon Group’s infrastructure arm to rebuild the Carbonneau Bridge in Saint-Félicien.

Work will be carried out in three phases. Phase 1 involves work on the first half of the new 336m Carbonneau Bridge and is expected to finish by October 2010.

Phase 2 involves demolishing the existing bridge and rebuilding the second half of the bridge. Work is expected to finish by July 2012.

Phase 3 involves completion of the entire bridge reconstruction and is scheduled to finish by October 2012.

The project includes the laying down of 6,800m³ of concrete, eight steel reinforced caissons 3.5m in diameter embedded 6m into the rock and 200 tubular piles supporting the abutments.
