The Northern Gateway Toll Road has won the Roading New Zealand Supreme Award at the 2009 Roading Excellence Awards.

The project has been awarded for being an “excellent example of a project that was meticulously planned and executed under a truly collaborative model.”

Roading New Zealand chief executive Chris Olsen said the project is a testament to the New Zealand Toll Authority’s courage to embark on major and high-risk projects using this form of contractual arrangement.

The $365m project, which is an extension of State Highway One from Orewa to Puhoi, has been built by the Northern Gateway Alliance and was opened in January this year.

The Roading Excellence Awards sponsored by Roading New Zealand acknowledge excellence in the design, planning and construction of significant roading projects as well as the development and execution of best practice and collaboration in the roading industry.
