The International Development Association of the World Bank has approved a $105m loan to Sri Lanka to finance two major road rehabilitation projects.

The works include upgrading a 200km road network in Uva Province and a 100km road network in the Ampara District of the war-damaged Eastern Region.

The renovations are expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel times and boost economy in the region.

Work is expected to begin this month and finish by September 2014.

The project will be carried out by the departments of provincial roads development of Uva as well as the Eastern Provincial Councils.
