Taiwan has approved a NT$34.35bn ($1.05bn) plan to rehabilitate the highways and bridges damaged by the August 2009 Typhoon Morakot.

Investment will be made between 2009 and 2012, the Cabinet-level Council for Economic Planning and Development announced.

Of the total amount, NT$29.26bn will be used to repair highways at the levels of province, county and township.

The remaining NT$5.09bn will be used to repair at least 67 bridges that have been damaged or destroyed by the typhoon.

Work will be divided into three categories of full restoration, partial restoration and quick and simple repairs.
