Liberia’s Ministry of Public Works and the National Bureau for Technical Studies and Development have joined hands for a $24.9m redesign of a road in the country’s south-eastern region.

The 125km road connects Fish Town and Harper in the region of River Gee and Maryland Counties.

Once rebuilt, the road will improve infrastructure between Liberia and the Ivory Coast.

The project is being funded by $23m from the African Development Bank and $1.9m from the Government of Liberia.

The project is part of the country’s $1.6bn Poverty Reduction Strategy, which has identified road and bridge reconstruction as one of its four major development programmes.

Reconstruction work on the road is expected as soon as the design is finished.
