The Washington State Department of Transportation in the US has fitted eight low-light traffic cameras with infra-red illuminators to allow a 24/7 view of highway conditions.

The new cameras will replace the existing cameras on I-90 that fail to provide a proper view at night or in low-light conditions.

The new cameras were installed on I-90 west of Snoqualmie Summit to Cle Elum.

The real-time information from the cameras will be available on the department’s website allowing the drivers to plan trips according to weather conditions.

The $60,000 camera replacement project was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
