French firm Siemens is to supply 717 Sitraffic Sicuro pay and display machines to the German city Munich for its parking-space management scheme.

The machines will allow payment to be made with coins or electronically as well as with the Munich ParkCard.

The machines use the GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) mobile communications standard, to allow modifications of device settings in real time and to process transaction data 24/7 in remote mode.

The machines are centrally controlled to allow online ticket layout modification, automatic startup of different parking zones as well as triggering for use after installation according to a schedule.

The machines are solar-powered to save energy costs and to do away with the need for power connections.

The company will begin installations by mid-2010, under nearly €1.71m contract from Bremicker Verkehrstechnik.
