The Australian government has announced plans to build a $930m Superway in the South Australian capital, Adelaide.

The road will connect Port River Expressway to Regency Road in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

The 4.8km superway will include a $812m 2.8km stretch elevated 10m above the existing road between Wing St and Taminga St.

The road is expected to save travel time along the route as well as help link freight carriers from the Regency Park industrial precinct to areas such as Port Adelaide, Outer Harbour, the airport and Islington rail terminal.

The project will be funded by $500m of federal money and the remainder by the state government.

Work is expected to begin in March next year and finish by the end of 2013.
