The New York City Department of Transportation has awarded a $150m (SEK 1.05bn) contract to Swedish firm Skanska to rebuild the Manhattan Bridge in New York City, US.

Work involves replacing over 600 suspender cables and bearings for the eight main trusses as well as re-wrapping the four main cables on the bridge.

The company will also install inspection platforms under the bridge and replace the necklace lighting on the bridge’s two exterior suspender cables.

Work is expected to begin in early 2010 and finish by mid-2013.
