Work has finished on the Rockton Road-State Street section of the ongoing $180m Interstate 90 widening project in the US state of Illinois.

This leaves only the last segment of the project, the $89m Cherry Valley I-90/39 interchange reconstruction, which is scheduled to finish in November.

The two-year I-90 project, which stretches from Newburg Road to Rockton Road, involves replacing the 50-year-old pavement and expanding the road from two to three lanes along the 13-mile corridor.

The project is part of the Illinois Tollway’s $6.3bn congestion-relief programme ‘Open Roads for a Faster Future’.
