The Polish Road Administration has awarded a $164m (PLN468m) contract to Swedish construction firm Skanska to expand a highway in Wroclaw.

The project involves expanding the S-8 highway in the northeast of the city by 25km.

Work includes building a 20km four-lane highway section and widening an existing 5km road.

The project also includes building traffic interchanges, 18 flyovers and 12 wildlife crossings, over 3km as well as building noise barriers and fencing along the entire stretch.

Work will begin this year and is expected to finish by the second quarter of 2012.
