The EC-supported project Viajeo, to implement a more efficient travel and transport planning system in congested cities, has begun its demonstration phase in two of the four demonstration cities Beijing and Shanghai.

The project aims to implement an open platform to enable data exchange and centralise process data from various sources, which will improve traveller information services and transport and city planning.

The Beijing demonstration aims to facilitate multi-modal journeys, and in Shanghai it will aim to ingrate environmental data with existing traffic data to develop a sound understanding of the impact of road transport on air quality.

The project is expected to contribute to a more inclusive urban transport system, reduce pollution from road transport and improve energy efficiency as well as safety in urban mobility.

Demonstrations in the remaining two selected cities, Brazil and Athens, will begin shortly.
