Work has begun on the China funded National Road 78 reconstruction project in Cambodia.

The 121km road is located nearly 500km northeast of the capital, Phnom Penh, and links O Porng Moan in Stung Treng province to Rattanakiri.

The $73.3m project is being funded largely by a concession loan from China, with 5% of the costs coming from the Cambodian Government.

Work is being carried out by the Shanghai Construction Company and is expected to finish in just over three years.

The project will connect the country’s northeastern area to its central region, facilitating travel and trade.
