The Bay Area Toll Authority of San Francisco, US, has signed TransCore to supply a new Advanced Toll Collection and Accounting System.

The new system will be installed on the seven San Francisco Bay area bridges, which carry nearly 348,000 vehicles daily and support 73 toll lanes.

Under the $35m contract, the company will replace the existing in-lane and toll booth equipment, build and install the hardware and software systems for the new toll collection system as well as test, install and maintain it for six years.

The system’s new Radio Frequency Identification equipment will include TransCore’s multiprotocol Encompass 6 reader in all of the lanes.

The design work of the new system is in progress and is expected to finish by 2012.
