UK firm CA Traffic has finished upgrading over 1,100 of the Highways Agency TAME (Traffic Appraisal Modelling and Economics) network of traffic monitoring sites.

The upgrade involves renovating the units to include mobile communications and the supply of 180 new ‘Profiler Type-F’ classifiers, which will allow the Highways Agency National Traffic Control Centre to collect data using telemetry rather than monthly manual collection.

The upgrade also included developing a bespoke, scaleable site management and telemetry system to automate daily polling and data retrieval from monitoring locations as well as to monitor both site and system faults.

The project has been carried out by three consulting companies covering 17,700km of major roads across England on behalf of the HA.
