Utah Department of Transportation in the US has selected a Fluor-led consortium to carry out the $1.1bn expansion of I-15 Corridor, a major north-south commuter route between Salt Lake City and the Provo / Orem region.

The project involves expanding a 23-mile section of the freeway in Utah County by adding 23 miles of lanes on southbound and northbound routes from American Fork to Provo and extending the existing express lane from Orem to Provo.

Work includes rebuilding ten freeway interchanges as well as replacing and restoring 55 bridges to make the road meet growing travel needs.

Work is expected to begin in spring 2010 and finish in December 2012.
