Ireland’s Dublin City Council and the Hungarian firm TrafficNav have demonstrated a new traffic information service.

The RDS-TMC technology informs motorists about traffic problems including weather conditions, their location as well as alternative routes to avoid traffic jams.

The system uses information from the council’s traffic control centre, which has access to over 200 cameras, direct contact with the local police as well as feedback from the public.

The technology will be available to users of enabled satellite navigation devices and integrated car navigation systems and is scheduled to enter service in Dublin in January next year, ahead of its planned national roll out.
