The Indian Government has approved a new 100km highway connecting its North-Eastern state of Mizoram with the border of Myanmar.

The road will extend from Mizoram’s Lawngtalai to the Myanmar border and would provide connections to the proposed port facilities at Myanmar’s Sittwe.

The highway and the port facilities will greatly enhance the competitiveness of the North East Region by reducing transportation cost, said officials.

The project is expected to cost nearly $138.7m (INR650 crore).
