Airports, roads and rail services in the US have been disrupted due to a record breaking snowstorm, which hit areas across the northeast from North Carolina to New England on the 19th of December.

The worst blizzard in years crippled air and road/rail traffic causing power outages and affecting sales during the busiest shopping season in the Washington region.

The accumulation of heavy snow on the roads has affected bus services around the region as roads remained slippery in many places, making movement difficult.

According to the National Weather Service it is the heaviest snow storm ever to hit the US capital region so early in December, and has affected around a quarter of the US population.
