US firm ETC will provide payment processing and customer service for the state of Utah’s I-15 Express Lanes electronic payment system, which will enter operation this autumn.

The system will replace the existing $50-a-month programme and will charge solo drivers using an algorithm that adjusts price based on traffic conditions.

ETC’s services will include all aspects of account management as well as customer services through phone, mail, email, fax and web access.

The three-year contract with the Utah Department of Transportation has an option of two two-year renewals.
