The Georgia Department of Transportation in the US has awarded a $50m, five-year contract to Serco to deploy and maintain Atlanta’s intelligent transportation system.

The system will provide motorist assistance and traveller information, improve safety and traffic flow and reduce carbon emissions.

The company will maintain over 2,500 intelligent transportation devices, which help motorists and emergency responders throughout the Atlanta Metropolitan market.

The deal includes management of camera systems, video and presence detection systems, ramp metering systems, changeable message signs and structures.
