The South African province of Gauteng has set up a new monitoring unit for traffic management during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The unit, set up by the Gauteng Executive Council, will work with municipalities and other government departments for managing emergencies and traffic, among other services.

The unit will report to a sub-committee of the council, which includes executive council for Roads and Public Transport.

Gauteng is gearing up for the World Cup and expects people who will be part of the event to be able to stay and move freely within the province, said officials.
