American Traffic Solutions (ATS) will develop, install and monitor an automated red-light and speed camera traffic enforcement programme in the city of Huntingdon, UK.

The programme targets the busy State Highway (SH) 70 and Veterans Drive (VD) S, and is aimed at enhancing road safety by curbing speeding.

While VD will have two cameras to monitor speeders and red-light runners in each direction, a decision on the cameras’ position on SH 70 is yet to be decided.

According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, intersection safety cameras cut red-light running by 40%-50% and speed cameras cut crashes by 30%.

A study done last year revealed that nearly 43% of the average daily traffic flow of 2,053 vehicles travelling northbound on VD S were travelling 10mph more than the posted speed limit of 40mph.

For SH 70, nearly 30% of the average daily traffic flow of 2,355 vehicles travelling eastbound were driving 20mph more than the posted speed limit of 30mph.
