UK firm 3D Laser Mapping has supplied its StreetMapper system to the Lithuanian State Enterprise Transport and Road Research Institute, to help evaluate road conditions and plan road repair.

The system, developed by the UK firm along with German navigation specialist IGI, uses vehicle-mounted Riegl VQ-250 lasers for a 360° field of view to scan and survey roads, while travelling at normal traffic speeds of 70kmph.

The system will allow the Institute’s Road Survey Division to achieve sub centimetre accurate measurements of the roads, with scanning range of 300m and a capacity of 300,000 measurements per second per sensor.

The Lithuanian State Enterprise Transport and Road Research Institute carries out research and design works in areas including road and bridge surveys, communication development, environmental protection and traffic safety.
