US firm Affiliated Computer Services, which has recently been acquired by documentation management provider Xerox, will provide a computer-aided dispatch system to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The system will provide accurate, real-time information to dispatchers to assign incidents to the appropriate first responder and enhance communications between CHP and other public safety agencies.

The $53m nine-year contract includes the software, hardware, systems integration, training and maintenance services for the system.

The system is expected to be in place by January 2012.
