Industry ministers in the European Union have asked EC to draft a common strategy for the development of electric cars.

In a meeting presided over by Spain, the country’s Industry minister Miguel Sebastian said all member countries believe electric vehicles to be a great opportunity for industry, technology, the environment and energy.

The country wants the electric car to feature in the EU’s 2020 strategy, the economic reform project aimed at ensuring Europe’ prosperity and sustainable growth, and has asked EC to prepare a plan for a common strategy by May.

The EU ministers also warned EC against the growing competition from the US and China.
