York Council in the UK is considering the introduction of a congestion charge as a measure to tackle traffic congestion, which is expected to rise by 28% by 2021.

Council leaders are currently in talks with transport consultants, who were involved in London’s Congestion Charge programme, about carrying out the new scheme.

The charge is one of the four options, costing between £97m and £244m, being studied including promotion of public transport, walking or cycling.

A public consultation has also been launched on the plan to run until next month.
