US firm Daktronics will supply Vanguard Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to the New Jersey (NJ) Turnpike Authority to improve information for motorists.

The $25.6m contract includes 240 Vanguard DMS and 160 Vanguard Variable Speed Limit Signs, to be installed over a period of three-and-a-half years.

The signs will supply information on congestion, construction and road conditions and will replace the existing neon signs installed on the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.

The DMS feature a high-resolution 20mm pixel pitch and full-colour capability, capable of cutting the time taken by motorists to understand a message by 35%.
