The Tibet Autonomous Region authorities are planning to spend CNY7bn ($1.26bn) on road construction this year, according to Xinhuanet.com.

The regional government is also working on providing all counties with access to roads by the end of 2010.

Tibet’s Traffic and Transportation Department also plans to take up major road assignments such as road construction in the countryside, safer and convenient services for passengers, enhancement of road management and extension of bus routes in urban areas.

China said it expects to take up a series of measures to improve construction and transportation in the region as the country’s 11th five-year plan comes to a close this year.
