US firm Iteris will maintain and operate the 511 Traveller Information System it recently deployed in the Inland Empire area in southern California for the next three years.

The $1.1m contract has been awarded by the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and the San Bernardino Associated Governments, covering the system for this growing metropolitan area to the east of Los Angeles.

Iteris President and CEO Abbas Mohaddes said he appreciated the display of confidence and looked forward to expanding the system.

The traffic information system, which launched in January this month, includes a traffic map and interactive voice response (IVR) telephone system. It displays travel times on major highways in changeable message signs that can display incidents and Sig Alerts as reported by the California Highway Patrol.

The new contract covers the internet map and IVR system, routine and preventative maintenance activities, reporting regularly to the RCTC on system up-time and user statistics, as well as providing hosting of the IVR system.
