A joint venture between Caterpillar and Navistar, NC2, will launch a new on-road truck, Cat, in Australia in 2011.

Cat CT 610s and CT 630s, powered by a 470-hp Cat C13 and a 550-hp Cat C15 respectively, will be assembled at NC2’s manufacturing facility in Tullamarine, Victoria.

CT 610, with a bumper to back-of-cab (BBC) measurement of 2.72m, will be targeted to 19m applications and has a capacity of up to 57t, NC2 said.

CT 630, with a BBC measurement of 3.10m, is suitable for B-double on-highway road train applications and will be available in both 72t and 90t options.

NC2 president Al Saltiel said the initial Cat trucks will be followed by an expanded lineup to address specific in-market requirements, including the changes in emissions standards coming in 2011.
