Canadian state and local government announced British Columbia will spend $87m more on northern highway projects this year.

The amount will be committed to 51 new provincial highway projects, which is apart from the 70 new and ongoing highway projects across northern British Columbia alone.

Premier of British Columbia Gordon Campbell said this will bring the value of the ongoing highway construction across the region to more than $200m.

Almost 400 highway and other transportation infrastructure projects are planned for this construction season across British Columbia.

“This will be one of the busiest highway construction seasons in the north on record,” Campbell said.

The new project works include railway crossings, resurfacing, paving, bridge replacement and repairing erosion damage.
