US Vice President Joe Biden has announced that 10,000 transportation projects are underway in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The last of the 10,000 projects began in North Carolina under contractor DHG Infrastructure.

The Sanford Bypass project near Raleigh, North Carolina, estimated at $26m, plans to relieve congestion and maintenance problems by redirecting commercial-truck traffic away from the heart of Sanford city.

Under the ARRA, around 33,000 miles of pavements have been improved, nearly 12,000 buses, vans and rail vehicles purchased, and approximately 850 transit facilities have been constructed.

The act has also provided more than $620m in preventive maintenance along with creating jobs and maintaining the nation’s transportation network.

In addition to the Sanford Bypass, other major ARRA-funded projects under construction include the I-4 / Selmon Expressway in Tampa, the Nelsonville Bypass in southeast Ohio and the DART Orange Line in Dallas.
