An electronic vehicle registration (EVR) system will be supplied to Thailand by Australian firm Mikoh under a new five-year deal, with a five-year option with the government.

The system, expected to go live during the second half of 2010, will incorporate Smart&Secure destruct-on-removal tags, RFID decals and RFID readers.

According to Mikoh, the tags ensure stolen tags cannot be applied to unregistered vehicles and any attempt to remove the tag renders it permanently and irrevocably disabled.

The company will carry out the work along with two Thai partners – Konlakorn and Somapa Information Technology.

Thailand has over 34 million registered vehicles, with four million new vehicle registrations anticipated per year, and it needs a solution solving a multitude of business and national security issues, Konlakorn said.
