Almost 600 automated speed control radars are to be installed on French highways in a bid to cut speeds and accidents on the roads.

Sagem Sécurité will deliver the system after signing a deal with the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea.

The Safran group subsidiary will supply and install the Mesta fixed radar stations over a period of four years, as well as maintain them.

The order is part of the French Government’s road safety programme, initiated in 2002.
