Increasing the range of speed cameras could help to reduce road fatalities, according to a study by the United Arab Emirates’ Department of Transport.

The study noted that speeding was responsible for 40% of fatal accidents in the emirate, according to

Titled ‘Are speed cameras effective in reducing road crashes in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’, the study claimed speed cameras can bring down traffic death toll.

The study is based on the total number of crashes on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road between 2001 and 2006.

It compared the data from three years before and after the speed cameras were set up on this route in 2003.
