Motorists in the UK will have to renew their licences every five years, according to new licensing laws revealed by the Department for Transport (DfT).

Under the plan bus and lorry drivers aged below 45 will now have to undergo medical test before getting the permission to drive.

Photographs, however, will only have to be renewed every ten years.

The new rules are scheduled to be enforced in 2013.

The move is expected to bring the UK in line with EU safety standards.
