Work to upgrade the road network in Birmingham, UK, will begin from 7 June.

The £2.7bn ($3.4bn) project, awarded to UK-based contractor Amey, is expected to last for 25 years, according to birminghammail.net.

Work involves installation of new street light columns and repair and maintenance works on 2,500km of the roads and footways.

Amey is also expected to purchase new vehicles and build highway depots in Birmingham’s inner-city areas.
