The additional 6km stretch of road of the Doha Expressway will open on 20 May to ease traffic in the capital city of Qatar and the surrounding areas.

The intersection, from February 22 Street and Amir Street, will offer direct connection to the Asiri Tunnel and the Gharaffa Bridge, according to the Gulf Times.

The opening section will also connect the Al Rayyan Road to the Doha Expressway.

As part of the development programme of Ashghal, the QR15bn ($4bn) Doha Expressway project will connect the north of Doha with the south, and the east with the west.

Phase one and two of the project will involve the construction of a main highway from the Immigration intersection to the Midmac intersection, including service roads, infrastructure and landscaping works.

It will also include the construction of four main interchanges at Omar bin Khattab, Rayyan Street, Jowan, and Sadd.
